National Public Radio: California’s Central Valley, home to some of the state’s richest farmland, suffers from a historic drought. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a water emergency disaster, and may have to impose mandatory restrictions on water usage. NPR’s Carrie Kahn explains the seriousness of the drought. Kahn is joined by Jose Ramirez, city manager of Firebaugh, Calif., and Tony Oliveira, a Kings County Supervisor. They talk about how the drought has affected their residents.
