The Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry (IPO) is a leading research and development centre with more than 60 years worth of experience in various fields of chemical research. One of the IPO’s many fields of research is concerned with national defense issues, such as the study of physicochemical and explosive properties of high-energetic materials including: brisant explosives, powders and solid rocket propellants, pyrotechnic mixtures, shaped charges and blasting agents.
HIGH-ENERGETIC MATERIALS RESEARCHES
IPO conducts research into a number of high-energetic materials. Research fields include:
Research on physicochemical and explosive properties of high-energetic materials
Synthesis of new explosives
Elaboration of new usable forms based on brisant, propellant and pyrotechnic explosives
Ballistic research on powders, propellant elements and pyrotechnic products
Research on pyrotechnic mixtures
Research on modificators of combustion of propellants
Elaboration of solid rocket propellants technology
Research on characteristics of blast-waves generated by explosions
Research on gas detonations and consequences of spatial explosions
Researching, designing and producing of devices and constructions limiting explosion consequences
HIGH-ENERGETIC MATERIALS TESTING
IPO also conducts research into explosives and blasting agents such as military-grade and industrial explosives. Research fields include:
Tests of explosive properties of high-energetic materials such as: sensitivity to different kinds of stimuli, detonation characteristics, ballistic properties
Tests of physicochemical properties of high energetic materials
Tests by use: electric and non-electric detonators (including comparisons), special igniter shaped charges and linear-shaped charges (using for steel cutting)
Modeling of computer simulations regarding the performance of shaped charges
SAFETY HAZARD RESEARCH AND EVALUATION
IPO is certified to research and evaluate safety hazards regarding manufactured high-energetic materials and substances with potentially explosive properties (including ammonium nitrate) and also performs investigations concerning the safe transportation of dangerous materials. IPO issues certifications and accreditations according to RID and ADR regulations, and is also a key participant in UN Expert Committee for Transport research projects.
CERTIFICATES
IPO’s investigations into high-energetic materials are conducted under stringent laboratory conditions in accordance with relevant military and civilian standards. IPO is accredited to ISO 9001 standards and meets competences with PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, confirmed by the Polish Centre for Testing (Certificate PCA No AB 374) and AQAP 2110.
