While Android users have access to a free turn-by-turn nav app from Google, we of the iPhone persuasion usually have to pay up for our how-do-I-get-there software, and those apps sometimes cost north of $50. Some are subscription-based, which means you might be paying over $100 per year. I won’t say pricey nav apps are never worth the money. I’ve been using TomTom’s software for a few months, and I’m pretty happy with it. But really — why so expensive? TomTom’s app and others like it have a nice, well-designed interface with lots of features.
