
In the U.S., SMS messaging is basically a charity program. The beneficiaries are the wireless carriers, and the benefactors are you, me, and any other smartphone user who willingly agrees to pay 10 cents per text, or a few bucks for a couple hundred per month, or any other “deal” in which we pay anything above and beyond the cost of the data plan to send and receive dainty little communiques on our phones.
